Shame Be Upon The Chutzpah of Kwame

The Con

Just when Detroit thinks former Mayor and convicted felon Kwame Kilpatrick has receded into the dustbin of Brush Park, er history, he finds a way to come back.  The man is the anti- Michael Corelone, circa the Godfather III. This time Kilpatrick has manages insult Detroiters, expat Detroiters, Politicians (usually an impossibility but he has managed) and our military men and women as well.

An East Lansing psychiatrist believes former Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick is suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder over the text message scandal, based on interviews with his wife, mother and sister.

The findings were revealed in documents filed Friday in federal court in Mississippi, where Kilpatrick is suing the city’s former communications provider, SkyTel.

He is seeking $100 million in damages.

SkyTel attorneys call the diagnosis a “sham” and contend that Dr. Norman Miller based his diagnosis entirely on 30-minute to hourlong telephone interviews of Kilpatrick’s wife, Carlita; sister, Ayanna Ferguson; and his mother, former U.S. Rep. Carolyn Cheeks Kilpatrick.

The attorneys are asking a judge to bar Miller’s testimony in the coming trial.

They claim the diagnosis was based entirely on the interviews conducted Dec. 14, using questions that lead the subjects to anticipated answers.

Miller didn’t interview Kilpatrick until three months after writing his diagnosis, according to the court papers.

All three women said Kilpatrick is stressed and had trouble sleeping when he first went to prison last May. His mother revealed that Kilpatrick has the intestinal disorder diverticulitis and “bad eating habits.”

But all three also said he has been brave and even inspirational behind bars.

The interviews revealed for the first time how Kilpatrick’s closest relatives view those they feel are responsible for his downfall — the media, the judge and prosecutors.

Carolyn Cheeks Kilpatrick said her son is “a political prisoner” and that her telephones have been tapped for five years.

“The helplessness and the slavery he feels is because of this,” she told Miller.

“We are feeling passion and we are angry.”

Carlita Kilpatrick said she spoke twice a week on the phone with her husband, but visited him in prison only three times.

She said he attempted to parent their three sons through email and letters.

Carlita Kilpatrick said she is still angry at her husband about his multiple infidelities, revealed by the text messages, and laments they have been unable to deal with that issue because she was bound to support him through his legal difficulties.

To review, not only is Kwame suffering from PTSD but he is also a political prisoner.  I never thought I’d see the day when the actual definition of chutzpah would be displayed in public.  However, this Kilpatrick would actually throw himself on the mercy of the court after he killed both of his parents sighting his status as an orphan.

Perhaps Kwame doesn’t need prison.  He needs to be exiled to part of the world/planet, whatever, where shame is a crime punishable by death.
