With all the problems with air traffic controllers falling asleep on the job and Southwest Airlines near misses, airlines have seen a decline in ticket sales.

So, in an effort to regain the important family segment of the American travel business, USAir recently introduced a special half fare for wives who accompanied their husbands on business trips.

Expecting valuable testimonials, the PR department sent out letters to all the wives of frequent flying businessmen who had used the special rates, asking how they enjoyed their trip.

Letters are still pouring in asking, “What trip?”
