The two tectonic plates that form the island of Iceland are in flux. Consequently, an active volcano is spewing ash into the air at an alarming rate. This is the latest seismic event in what has been an eventful year.

The Haitian and Chilean Earthquakes, the 7.whatever shaker in Mexico a few weeks back etc. It appears as if Terra is pissed off and uncomfortable at the moment. The other explanation is simply the planet is alive and aging. Either way, the disaster footage from the earthquake-decimated regions is heartbreaking.

Perhaps one day in the not so distant future, science will find a way to predict where and when the next tectonic plate shift will occur and therefore save millions of lives.

Hojatoleslam Kazem Sedighi, a senior Iranian Cleric, has another explanation for the unsettled earth and the recent rise in earthquakes.

“Many women who do not dress modestly … lead young men astray, corrupt their chastity and spread adultery in society, which (consequently) increases earthquakes,” Hojatoleslam Kazem Sedighi was quoted as saying by Iranian media. (Detroit Free Press 4/19/2010)
