The Chickification of America Through Baseball?

The Con

The past two Zola System posts have discussed the ‘Chickification of America, a concept I didn’t fully understand. I know I had heard the term before but wasn’t quite sure where it came from. It turns out, Rush Limbaugh, my least favorite blowhard, first coined the phrase to describe a society that devalues both masculinity and femininity as it slides into an androgynous state.

Rush is one of those radio personalities I avoid. I loathe anyone who tells me what to think. If Limbaugh believes our society is ‘Chickifying’ then the opposite must be true.

Los Angeles Dodger outfielder Manny Ramirez is making me re-think my stance on Limbaugh and ‘Chickification.’ No, it’s not the long hair or the on-field attitude that more than one announcer has called ‘flighty.’ Ramirez, the best right-handed hitter of a generation and hero to many boys in the Dominican-American community, used a female fertility drug in an attempt to mask his use of steroids.

Baseball players are loading up on estrogen to gain a competitive advantage. I don’t think this is what Ty Cobb meant when he said baseball is a red-blooded sport for red-blooded men. It’s no pink tea, and mollycoddles had better stay out. It’s a struggle for supremacy, a survival of the fittest.”

Thankfully, I’m stubborn. I refuse to give Limbaugh any props.
