Weiner And Breitbart Make Monday Fun Redux

The Best Of The Zola System

Conservative blogger/gadfly Andrew Breitbart died early this morning just outside his Brentwood home of what appears to be a heart attack at the age of 43.  Although didn’t I agree with everything Breitbart stood and/or campaigned for, he was always a man to be reckoned with on whatever political talk show placed him on whatever panel.  Like him or loathe him, Breitbart’s passion, voice and chutzpah will be missed in the national political dialoge.

My thoughts and prayers go out to his wife and children.

(From 6/6/11)

So Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-New York) sends a Tweet of his shorts covered schmuck to a young woman on May 20.  BigGovernment.com breaks the story. Weiner claims his Twitter account was hacked but can’t explain how the picture got from his phone to his Twitter account.  Anthony Weiner then holds a 90-minute rambling press conference where he talks around the issue of responsibility.  Just in case people don’t get the point that Weiner has given a non-denial denial, he goes on Fox News and sits for an interview with Bret Baier that turns combative because Weiner refuses to discuss the issue once again.

While Weiner attempts to push the whole mess under the rug, a porn star named Ginger Lee claims he’s Tweeted her in the past.  This forces Weiner to claim he will not discuss Weiner-Gate any more and to prove this point, he has a CBS reporter run out of his Congressional office by the police.

While all this is going on, conservative gadfly and BigGovernment.com publisher Andrew Breitbart is ‘vilified’ by the ‘liberal’ media for breaking Weiner-Gate.  So Breitbart decides to publish other photos Weiner has sent to at least six other women he’s had ‘online’ relationships with.

Weiner calls a press conference at 4pm EDT at a Sheraton in New York City.  No one claims to know what the presser is ‘about’ but before Rep. Weiner can step to the microphone, Andrew Breitbart hijacks the event (he claims he had a book signing up the block) and demands an apology.  He also claims, in a wonderful Larry Flynt imitation, to have a picture that is far worse than previously seen aka X-rated but won’t show to “save his (Weiner’s) family.”  Breitbart speaks for 12 minutes then leaves.

Weiner appears a few minutes later and in a moment of contrition admits to sending the original Tweet (something we all knew anyway), apologizes to his wife and asks for forgiveness from everyone including Andrew Breitbart.  Rep. Andrew Weiner also says he won’t resign.

Every television news network, cable and otherwise, are calling for Weiner’s resignation.

Who knew Mondays could be so much fun!

I think the American people owe Rep. Weiner a huge thank you for not learning from President Richard Nixon’s Watergate example: it’s not the act that nails you, it’s the cover-up.

And to Mr. Breitbart I’d like to offer my personal thanks for trying to be a cross between William Randolph Hearst and Larry Flynt.  Long may you muckrake and hijack pressers.
