Not Going Where The Money Is
The Con
How bad is the worldwide economy? The Greeks, who invented civilization, are about to go totally and utterly bankrupt. And if that happens the European Union they helped found will cease to exist.
Closer to home, the Federal and State Governments can’t seem to agree on how to raise revenue. Even when presented with a sure fire way to earn more cash and drag us out of the mess we have created, the G seems to be intent on entering Chapter 7 or 11 not forcing prosperity to once again rear her lovely head.

A federal appeals court dealt a losing hand Friday to a New York State poker club.
The US Second Circuit Court of Appeals rejected arguments that the activities of AK Tournament Play, a defunct recreational poker club in Wallkill, N.Y., aren’t protected assembly under the First Amendment. The club hosted Texas Hold-Em poker tournaments.
In a summary order Friday, the appeals court agreed with a lower court finding that the poker club’s lawsuit against the town of Wallkill should be dismissed. Wallkill is about 77 miles north of New York City.
“Even assuming arguendo that there might be some circumstances under which a poker club’s activities could involve sufficiently expressive or political content to merit protection under the First Amendment, plaintiff’s conclusory and vague complaint fails to set out facts from which a court could draw that conclusion here,” the appellate court found.
The poker club had alleged that the town unsuccessfully tried to condemn a portion of the commercial space it occupied in 2007 and engaged in additional “threatening and coercive conduct.” The club, which at one point had 130 members, discontinued its activities after its membership dwindled following the town’s conduct, according to the lawsuit.
A lawyer for the poker club declined comment Friday, saying he had yet to see the court’s order.
So much for keep it on shore and tax the hell out of it. This is the first time I’ve ever seen the City, State, Feds or otherwise not go where the money was.
