The 2011 Detroit Lions Are 3-0

For the first time in 31 years, the Detroit Lions have opened the NFL season with three straight wins.  Yes, you read the previous sentence correctly.  The Detroit Lions are 3-0 in the early going of the 2011 campaign.

However, as these are the Lions, we need to have some perspective.  Yes, the last time the Lions were 3-0 in a season was 1980.  When the dust settled on December 21, the lions finished 9-7 after a 4-0 start and didn’t qualify for the playoffs despite an electrifying rookie season from 1^st round pick Billy Sims.

So before my fellow Lions sufferers er, fans, get all our panties in a twist over an (even I a diehard Honolulu Blue and Silver cynic must admit) impressive three game start, let’s remember who we’re talking about here: the Detroit Lions; the only NFL team to have a player collapse and die on the field of play.  This team could just as easily go 3-13 as 13-3.

That doesn’t mean I won’t be watching every game crowing and miserably gloating over mistakes while silently praying for success.
