Goodluck Jonathon Is Looking Out For Me

The Con

Three days back, I received this e-mail from FBI Agent.  The subject box had the phrase “In Regards To Your Payment.”  I figured this had to be one of those letters from Nigeria asking for money but with the FBI Agent as the sender you have to be careful.  The last thing in the world anyone wants is trouble from the G. Plus, I was curious to see what the e-mail said and whom it was really from.

The text of the e-mail was faux official and read:

This is from the FBI agent Mr David Jackson in regards to your payment, To read our important message, Kindly open the attached files and follow up instructions immediately.

Sincerely yours,

MR. DAVID JACKSON

FBI AGENT

No address for the shadowy FBI Agent Mr. Jackson.  The e-mail encoding wasn’t an @fbi.gov but something else entirely: nani@w8bedy6aq.homepage.t-online.de.

Of course there was an rtf attachment.  A letter of some sort, was my guess.  However, it wasn’t your standard I’m stuck in Nigeria and I need cash note.  No.  This time the Nigerian field office of the FBI wanted to give me money that the Brits, Nigerians and the Fed was trying to screw me out of.

Note: At this time we do not have a national e-mail address for public questions or comments. Some of our local FBI offices, however, do have their own e-mail addresses. If you wish to get in contact with FBI on fund/transfer transactions Kindly use this email: fbi-update-online-transfer@w.cn

Who knew the President of Nigeria was looking out for my economic interests and Ben Bernake wanted to screw me out of money I had waiting for me in Lagos, Nigeria.  I thought the head of the Fed wanted to screw me out of all the money I had in the bank in the US.

Note to the Nigerian scammers who sent this e-mail: try sending it from a real FBI e-mail address.  Otherwise I’m never going to believe a guy named Goodluck Jonathon is looking out for my best interests even if he is the esteemed President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
